Working in wellness? Here’s why you need to have a website

Are you working in wellness, trying to find clients and build a following? And you’re still just using your Facebook or instagram account?! Maybe have a read of this list of reasons why you should have a wellness website…

1. First impressions are key

Reasons to have a website - first impressions

Have you ever googled a yoga teacher or holistic therapist that you’re thinking of visiting, to discover that you can’t find any info on the person? Isn’t it a bit off-putting when that happens?!

You know yourself, when a person is interested in something, the first thing they do is Google it. They want to ensure you’re a real person and that you have a credible background. Your website is your professional portfolio, showcasing all of your greatness.

Maybe you already have a website that’s “homemade” or is not putting your best self forward. Think about how you would like prospective clients to meet you online. It’s just the same as meeting them in person. You wouldn’t show up to a yoga class or consultation with messy hair, dirty clothes and odd shoes on – would you?

2. You’ll be global

A professional, aesthetically pleasing website gives you instant access to potential customers all over the world. This can greatly increase your customer base. You might be thinking that you’re a service so there’s no need to reach customers in other countries. But even services can be made available online. Consider the possibility of hosting online private/ group classes and workshops, webinars, selling products that you endorse. This opens up a whole new world of opportunities.

3. Show them what you’re made of

Your website is a great place to showcase the type of person you are, what kind of projects you’ve worked on, your values, skills and expertise. Images speak a thousand words so start to build up a gallery. Testimonials are so impactful – people like to see that other clients have had a good personal experience with you. All of these elements demonstrate what makes your business unique.

4. Get noticed by the press

Having worked in a content media company in New York I know how important it is to make the people working in press -and medias’ lives easier. Literally just hand it to them on a plate and they’ll thank you for it. Maybe they’ll feature you in an article about ‘best yoga teachers 2017’ or ‘inspiring health coaches to follow’.

I can’t tell you how many times I tried to find info about a business to feature, to end up scrapping the idea because they had useless images and not enough info to write about them. Time is precious with press people so having an easily accessible website with all the bits they’ll need is a joy for them!

5. Online marketing

The-Paradigm---Reasons-to-have-a-website

One of the most effective ways to market yourself online is with email marketing.  You’re gaining a way into your client’s inbox, allowing you to deeper connect with them and let them know about your special offers, upcoming events, and knowledge. One of the best ways to collect email addresses is through your website. Having an email sign-up box that connects to an automated email service (like Mail Chimp or Campaign Monitor) makes your life so much easier. They land on your wellness website, submit their email address and then when you want to send out your newsletter their email is all ready to send to.

There’s a bunch of content management systems (CMSs) that have free tools there to get you started on building your own wellness website. Squarespace, WordPress and Wix are the most popular. There’s so many options and ways to take it.

For some though, they can be a bit finicky and hard to work around. Especially if you’re working a full-time job on top of it all. If you are more of a tech illiterate person or simply don’t have the time I offer wellness website building and designing on SquareSpace and WordPress. As well as a number of other techy tasks you might need some help on when it comes to creating an online presence.
